Info About College Board, SAT and ACT exams

Nottingham juniors and seniors who are thinking about college want to get themselves registered at College Board, the site where you register for the SAT exam, required by more colleges and universities, and where you can take practice tests, get an SAT question of the day in your inbox, and track down lots of useful information.  College Board also is where you’ll go to get your AP scores and to send them to your college or university.

Parents, you can create an account, too, and get regular updates about the college search.  To get started, go to www.collegeboard.org

SAT exams begin in the fall, and some students plan to take the exam twice.  Remember, you need to register in advance, so use this link to see test dates AND registration deadlines:  http://professionals.collegeboard.com/testing/sat-reasoning/register/test-dates

Some schools, especially those in the Midwest, encourage students to take the ACT instead of the SAT.  Not sure whether your target schools want you to take the SAT or the ACT?  Get on their websites and find out.  Some students take both because the tests are different, and some students do better on one than the other.  Check the scoring-the top score on an ACT exam is 36.  Here’s the link to ACT information:  http://www.act.org/products/k-12-act-test/

Remember, if you qualify for free or reduced lunch, you can get a waiver on the test fees.  Check with your guidance counselor when school begins.

Do You Need a Physical This Year?

A reminder that many Nottingham students will need a physical this year, and the school district is no longer providing them.

Students who are entering 10th grade need a physical on record with the school, and any student planning to participate in a sport this year needs to have a physical on file before he or she will be allowed to participate-this includes practicing with the team.   FALL ATHLETES – this is especially important for you!

Please schedule appointments now with your own family doctor for the required physical and drop off or send the completed form (see attached) to the Nottingham school nurse: Patricia Pellegrini, Nurse
