Music Department Hosts Potluck and Cabaret Concert

The Nottingham Music Department is hosting a Potluck and Cabaret Concert on Monday, March 30, and is inviting the Nottingham community to join them. Dinner is at 6:00 pm. Music program begins at 7:00 pm. Dinner is no charge but please consider a donation to the Nottingham Music Department. There will be a drum at the door.

The music for the evening is going to be from movie soundtracks, so we’re calling the concert “A Night At the Movies.”

Information about a Proposal for a New Ed Smith

Ed Smith School is currently on the school district’s list of schools in line for renovation, but a group of Ed Smith parents are wondering if refurbishing the old building is the best option for Ed Smith students.

Taste of Syracuse Announces Poster Contest

For the second year, the Taste of Syracuse and CNY Arts are teaming up to sponsor a contest in which students can contribute poster designs to promote the area’s biggest food festival.

Contestants should be students in grades 7 to 12, currently enrolled in public, private, parochial or home school in Cortland, Herkimer, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga or Oswego counties. The winning design will be featured in a variety of marketing materials and online advertisement promoting this year’s Taste of Syracuse, which is June 5 and 6 in and around Clinton Square in downtown Syracuse. The initial round of judging will be conducted by Taste of Syracuse and CNY Arts. That will generate 10 finalists. From those finalists, the winner will be chosen by the community based on votes at Syracuse.com. All top ten finalists will be featured on Syracuse.com. The grand prize winner also receives a $150 award, plus another $150 goes to that student’s school or organization Art Department. There are also first and second runner-up prizes.

Junior Class Spring Fling is Friday

Nottingham’s Junior Class holds its Spring Fling on Friday, March 20, from 7-10 pm in the Nottingham gym.  Use the gym entrance.

Tickets are $7 in advance; $10 at the door.  The Spring Fling is open to all grades, not just juniors.  But you have to be academically eligible to attend—another reason to hand in your homework!

Nottingham Showcase is Saturday, March 21

The annual Nottingham Showcase and Pancake Breakfast is set for Saturday, March 21, from 8-11 am.pancakebreakfast_gif

The morning features a pancake breakfast for Nottingham friends and families, displays from Nottingham classes and clubs, special performances and building tours.  The Showcase highlights activities of interest to current Nottingham families but is especially designed as a welcome for 8th graders and their families, students who will be Nottingham freshmen next year.

Pancakes will be hot off the griddle beginning at 8 am.  Tickets are $4 person or $15 per family, available at the door.

Football Team Raising Funds for Tackling Equipment

The following message is from Nottingham varsity football coach Nick Patterson:

Nottingham High School football has started a fundraising initiative for the “Shadow Man” tackling device, which helps teach proper tackling techniques w/o players hurting each other and also helps reduce the risk of concussions.  We hope the Nottingham community can help us reach our goal of $2400 by May 11.

SU and Siemens Offer Summer Research Internship

Syracuse University’s College of Engineering and Computer Science and the Siemens Foundation have partnered to create an engineering research opportunity for two current Onondaga County rising high school sophomores or juniors. This will be a 6-week research program this coming summer, and the selected students will work 25 hours/week on a specific research project.

Nottingham Theater’s Spring Musical is Rent

Nottingham Theater’s spring show is Rent, a rock musical that tells the story of a group of impoverished young artists struggling to survive and create a life in New York City’s East Village under the shadow of HIV/AIDS.  Rent III

Show times are 7 pm on Friday, March 13, and Saturday, March 14, and 2 pm on Sunday, March 15.   Tickets are $10 for adults; $7 for students and seniors.  Tickets are available at the door.

SCSD Budget Presented March 2

The SCSD 2015/2016 budget will be presented at a Special Work Session on Monday, March 2nd at 5:30. There will be public hearings on the budget on Thursday, March 5th at 5:30 and Wednesday, March 11th from 5:00 – 5:30. All meetings are in the Board Rooms located at 725 Harrison St. ALL PARENTS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS are encouraged to attend a presentation.
